A Note on Amazon

Amazon is an ethically complicated company, to put it mildly. Its labor practices, monopolistic tendencies, and treatment of independent creators raise serious concerns. At the same time, as a small business, there is no other platform with the same reach when it comes to publishing and affiliate programs. The other major venue for print-on-demand, which we won’t name to avoid implying criticism, uses the same print fulfillment company—one also owned by Amazon.

There is no truly ethical consumption under late-stage capitalism, and while we all make choices about where and how we spend our money, those choices are always constrained by the realities of survival. We make the most ethical decisions we can while continuing to exist, and for now, that means working within the system we have, even as we remain critical of it.

This site features Amazon affiliate links and print products fulfilled by Amazon.
